What is an earthquake?
An earthquake is a sudden, rapid movement of the earth caused by the
breaking and / or sliding of rocks at low levels of the surface of the Land.
As a result of tremors or shaking from an earthquake can produce the
collapse of structures such as buildings and bridges, interruption of public services
water, electricity, gas, and telephone; These can also cause cave-ins or
landslides, avalanches, flash floods, fires, and also
destruction by huge waves (tsunamis). Buildings with foundations in beds
not very solid, sandy soils, on bodies of water (existing or not), or
where the lands are not stable they are the most risky. Buildings or mobile homes and
manufactured homes that are not properly anchored or secured to the ground or
reinforced are also at high risk of sudden movement or collapse during a
earthquake. Earthquakes can occur at any time at any
time of the year.
